Mailing 101

Ancillary Service Endorsements

With any mailing, there is always a possibility that some pieces will be undeliverable as addressed. Without an endorsement, first class mail is forwarded on if a forwarding address is available. Nonprofit mail, however, is discarded if undeliverable, due to it being sent with highly discounted postage.

If your department maintains their own data list, it may be beneficial to receive notice of bad addresses, or have the mail pieces returned to you. This is done through the use of ancillary service endorsements.

While using an endorsement can be helpful in cleaning up a data list, it can also be an unnecessary expense if used incorrectly. If you are unsure about using an endorsement, please call us to discuss the specifics of your project. For comprehensive, detailed information about postal endorsements, please visit the USPS Domestic Mail Manual.
